Bucephalus, the legendary horse of Alexander the Great, seemed untamable to all, yet Alexander noticed the horse was frightened by its own shadow in the sunlight. Gently turning him away from the glare and speaking softly, he earned Bucephalus’s trust, taming him when no one else could. Light played a central role in Bucephalus’s life, shaping both the horse’s fear and the young prince’s triumph. In this painting, Bucephalus’s form is carved from sunlight, capturing the instant when courage, patience, and light transformed fear into loyalty, forging a bond that would endure through decades of battles and glory.
